New Years
Each New Years Eve my family goes to one of cousins house and we all spend time with each other and play games and all put little hates and whistles on and wait for the ball to drop in Times Square. For New Years Eve this year I went to my cousin, Austin’s house. My mom’s side of the family was there and all their friends. I brought my friend Ashley and we hung out with my cousins. Once everyone was there we played a dice game called bunco which was really fun. When we were done playing that we all just hung out ate some snacks and then the time came and we watched the ball drop from Times Square, we all cheered with excitement as we entered the new decade. In 2009 I finished middle school and entered high school which I was very happy about. I’m also happy to leave middle school behind because I personally didn’t like middle school that much so I was glad to leave. I’m looking forward to a few things in 2010, I’m excited to go to New York in the spring and to see what this year will bring me. Usually I don’t make resolutions and if I do make any they aren’t really good ones that are promising. For this year I did make a resolution though, it is that I want to do good in school and I would like to hope that I don’t get any C’s in any of my classes. I plan on following through with my resolution by doing all my homework and studying for all my tests and do all extra credit if offered. I hope this decade is a good one.

Traditions
I would have to say that my favorite holidays are Thanksgiving and Christmas. They are my favorite holidays because I spend so much time around my family during these holidays and I really like to spend time with my family. My mom has a brother and a sister so during Thanksgiving all of our families go up north where my grandparents live. We go Tuesday night and then Wednesday morning my mom, aunt and grandma go out all day to do some Christmas shopping. While they’re shopping my cousins and I just hang out anxiously waiting to see if we can sneak a peek at any of our Christmas presents when they come back. When Thursday comes, it’s Thanksgiving and our moms are in the kitchen all day and then we have our wonderful Thanksgiving feast.
During Christmas I also spend much of the time with my family. Christmas Eve my dad’s family comes over which is a little bigger than my moms. We all just hangout and catch up since we don’t see each other all the time. Then we all sit down and eat Christmas dinner. When we’re all done eating we sit by the Christmas tree and open our presents. After that’s over it’s pretty late so people start to leave and me and my sister leave out milk and cookies on the counter for Santa. In the morning we wake up really early, open presents and go up to my grandparents house and open up more presents. I really don’t like change so I hope my holiday traditions stay the same.

The Power of One
Watching The Power of One I thought was very inspiring. Usually in the past I didn’t enjoy many movies that I had watched in school but so far I’ve really like the movies we have watched in Global Ed. The Power of One would definitely be one of my favorite movies and I would recommend it to anyone who has not seen it. I find it more enjoyable to watch a movie when you know the background knowledge of it all, so I am glad we learned about South Africa before we watched it. When one of the men in prison, Geel, acted by Morgan Freeman was killed by one of the prison guards and then P.K ran over and saw him dying made me shed a tear and I had to turn my head, because it was too hard to watch. Another really hard part to watch was when Maria jumped in front of P.K. so he wouldn’t get hit in the head but she did and she died. I thought that part was hard to watch because someone had died but also because shortly before she was killed P.K. confessed his love for her. I learned that South Africa was not a safe place at all. It reminded me of the 1974 genocide in Rwanda with all the killings and Army trucks driving around. Beside all the killings it was a very good movie that I think all sorts of people would enjoy you can also learn from the film.
